Pranava, Prana, Pranayama: A Practicum | Dr. Robert Svoboda

Where prana, the life force, exists, so does life; no prana, no life. The free, well-channeled flow of prana brings well-being; obstructions to that flow, particularly those caused by obstacles that we set in its way, prevent prana from fulfilling its task. Sometimes prana becomes so knotted up that what appears on the surface is something quite different underneath. When we get out of prana’s way and let it do its work, we follow the direct path to happiness & health. During this presentation we will focus on the life force, on how to open ourselves to it, become more familiar with its ways, determine the nature of obstructions that might arise within its circulation, and identify simple practical remedies to eliminate these obstructions.

About Dr. Svoboda

drsvaboda.jpg

Dr. Robert Svoboda is the first Westerner ever to graduate from a college of Ayurveda and be licensed to practice Ayurveda in India. During and after his formal Ayurvedic training he was tutored in Ayurveda, Yoga, Jyotish, Tantra and other forms of classical Indian lore by his mentor, the Aghori Vimalananda. He is the author of over a dozen books and has served as Adjunct Faculty at the Ayurvedic Institute in Albuquerque, NM, and at Bastyr University in Kenmore, WA. You can find out more about his work at www.drsvoboda.com and follow him on Facebook, YouTube and Instagram.

Gwyn Williams | Happy Hippy: therapeutic approaches to the hip joint

The trunk and core are fundamental to high quality functional movement, and their gateway is the hip joint. This workshop provides a structural and energetic lens through which to look at the hip joint. Explore ways to strengthen and stretch with therapeutic approaches towards this high impact area. Includes solo movement patterns and zenthai bodywork gestures suitable for all.

This workshop is open to all, and will be particularly useful for yoga teachers looking to deepen their understanding of touch and gain confidence having their hands on students. It will also provide an additional hip sequence for graduates of our Advanced Teacher Training Module - Touch.

About Gwyn

Gwyn Williams is a movement based therapist who created Zenthai shiatsu 20 years ago. On the surface, Zenthai is a fusion of Zen shiatsu, Thai massage and osteopathic technique, however beneath is an enriched conversation with a vibrant, ever-changing life. The dissolution of division into unity continues to be Gwyn's inspiration and the aspects of community, connection and contribution are at the core of the practice.

Whilst many have been touched by the therapist programs and the multi layered offerings of Zen Thai Shiatsu, the art has evolved to now include a fluid movement-based practice known as Zenthai Flow. For the past two decades Gwyn has inspired thousands of students throughout the world with his continually evolving form, which is based around Thich Nhat Hanh's words: "When you touch one thing with deep awareness, you touch everything." Gwyn's work can be explored through his books 'The Zen of Touch' and 'Connection to Source', the www.zenthaishiatsu.com website or the Zenthai healing centres in Australia and Bali. For more information.

A Weekend with Clive Sheridan

  • Craeture Yoga Industrial Studio (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

This weekend course comprises two workshops:

Saturday 11 May 12-3pm
Sunday 12 May 12-3pm

Clive will start each daily session with an invigorating and energising all-round Asana practice, with a particular focus on the breath. This will be followed by a meditative exploration of essential Pranayama rhythms, guided with Clive’s sensitive insight acquired over many years of exploration. A Satsang sharing will complete each day, where we will lovingly inquire into our potential to awaken the heart from its emotional veils, and free the mind from its tendency for confusion, thus ultimately fulfilling our Yogic life.

clivesheridan

About Clive
Following Clive’s first overland journey from Europe to India in 1966, he was ‘called’ onto the path of Yoga. Over the following years he travelled extensively in India, and alongside the physical exploration of Asana & Pranayama, he became immersed in devotional meditation to the Goddess in all our hearts. Meeting his very wild and uncompromising spiritual mentor in the late 1980’s in West Bengal, this devotion became merged in self inquiry into the true nature of the mind. Through the highest Blessings of the great Mother, and with the grace of the Guru, Clive was blessed with a precious liberation beyond the mind a few years later.
Clive’s unique Yogic cocktail has “matured” into a potent sharing of Hatha Yoga practices which he terms: “Tools for Transformation”! With a deepening yogic focus, we are called to gaze directly and lovingly into matters of the heart and mind, with the potential to dissolve and heal all unresolved emotions veiling our heart space, and to settle into spaciousness beyond the busy mind!
“Self inquiry is the Siva & devotion the Shakti within us!” - with Hatha Yoga Sadhana the means to awaken to our Bliss.

Cost: $140 for the weekend (2 workshops). 10% discount for members, 10% early bird discount until Feb 28.
Please note that individual workshops are not available.

Foundations of Somatic Stress Release - 5 Day Certification | Dr Scott Lyons

This comprehensive 5 day immersion introduces students to Somatic Stress Release, addressing the underlying psycho-physical patterns associated with stress while promoting well-being through the lens of body-oriented therapies.

Stress related health challenges are now a widespread global issue. Chronic stress wreaks havoc on our health, impacts biological energy conservation, and makes us less attuned to the need for self-care. When a person encounters stress they form neuromuscular patterns to manage and protect themselves from the situation. A person maintains this activation even after the stressor is eliminated. This behavior prevents them from properly processing or mobilizing the stress. Similarly, individuals can get trapped in thought cycles which continually activate a physiological response, limiting their tolerance and capacity to manage additional stressors.

A physiological stress response happens throughout every system of the body, ultimately interacting with every cell. It’s no wonder that stress responses are interwoven with our emotions, immune function, thoughts, breath, and movements . Somatic Stress Release is a holistic approach that recognizes the complex layering of each individual's relation to stress. Stress manifests itself in each person’s body differently. Understanding this unique body response allows each person to process and navigate the intricate layers of stress. One of the most effective pathways towards that awareness and negotiation is through feeling a deeper sense of and connection with the body-mind, an approach called somatics.

In this somatic approach there is a recognition that we engage with others and the world through sensations and movement. As stress is something experienced and expressed through the body, a somatic or body-focused approach can more quickly address habitual responses to internal and external stressors.

In addition to utilizing body-based stress release techniques, this immersion will also integrate experiential anatomy and physiology, mind-body medicine techniques, elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy, Neuro-Linguistic Programing, movement meditations, and yoga nidra.

In this immersion you will:

  • Gain a deeper understanding of the biological, social, and psychological aspects of stress.

  • Identify somatic symptoms and triggers for emotional and physical distress.

  • Learn to work with stress as it is reflected in facial expressions, posture, muscular pattern, or other forms of body language.

  • Learn cognitive reframing and stress tolerance techniques.

  • Explore self hypnosis for relaxation.

  • Learn neuromuscular repatterning procedures to release unconscious habituated stress cycles.

  • Identify yours and other’s resources for negotiating stress.

  • Learn embodied mindfulness and resilience training techniques.

  • Engage in movement meditations and breath work to release trapped or stored arousal energy.

  • Stop burnout and rebuild depleted biological resources.

  • Learn to take control of your relationship to stress in order to live a life of greater well-being.

  • Apply manual-therapy techniques to guided meditation.

*Participants will receive a certificate in Foundations of Somatic Stress Release and may receive 35 hours of CEU’s from the Yoga Alliance.

*Two online support sessions will be offered after the training to help participants integrate the material.

*This foundations certification is open to anyone (i.e yoga teachers, therapists, parents, teachers, etc) who wishes to address stress from a multidisciplinary holistic approach.

Flow State with Tara Judelle | Flow

This workshop series is designed to help bring practitioners into a state of flow. We'll be working in arenas in the body that are proven to relate to optimal states of flow similar to musicians being in the pocket or athletes being "in the zone". There will be asana, meditation, free movement and partner work, all with the intention of delivering us into the state of flow that creates an easeful, optimal dance through life.

Flow

Pouring ourselves into moment to moment presence allows the full spectrum of our awareness to be harnessed by what we are doing. The subject and object in states of flow can merge, creating a time/space blur. Moving our meditation into movement gives us a repeatable practice to glide with more presence and ease through transitions.

About Tara Judelle

For over 28 years Tara has experimented with all forms of movement flow, from dance to Tai Chi, to movement improvisation and ultimately yoga. Certified in the Anusara™ method, Tara has taught yoga extensively, both nationally and internationally, for 16 years. She has been inspired by the Body Mind Centering® works of Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen and has studied and taught with Carlos Pomeda and Sally Kempton. In 2014 Tara co-created the School of Embodied Flow™ to bring her current passions together into a modern movement of Yoga. For the last 8 years she has been a featured teacher as part of the yogaglo.com team, allowing the yoga conversation to stream around the globe. Tara’s classes focus on the discovery of embodied anatomy, bringing to the yogic tradition a scientific yet playful study of the movement vocabulary of the body and the ever-expanding perceptual awareness of the human mind.

Reciprocity

The bridge between our individual self and the outer environment. This class looks at creating a three-dimensional container of self, finding support in both inner and outer space. A weekend with Clive Sheridan

About Clive

clive3.JPG

10% discount for members, 10% early bird discount until June 10.

Module 2: Hatha Yoga Pradipika

What is the origin of Hatha Yoga? What is the mysterious Kundalini? How can I experience it and how will that help me in my practice? What is unique about the human body? How can yoga help me to understand my body? Above all, how can these teachings help me to deepen my practice? These are some of the questions that we are going to explore in this seminar. Starting from a Tantric basis, Hatha Yoga represents a radical approach in which the body is not an obstacle for spiritual life, but rather the very vehicle for the refinement of our awareness and the development
of the connection with the world and with our own selves, to the deepest possible level. This seminar offers a fascinating journey through the secret “anatomy” revealed by the Tantric masters and will also unveil several potent exercises to power our daily practice.

Module 1: History, Evolution and Methodology of Yoga

We invite you to dive into the secret wisdom of the ancient yoga texts. This seminar will lead us through the tantalizing history of yoga, exploring its development and the subtleties we can learn and apply to our practice. Answer your questions about the origin and development of yoga, its main schools and teachings, its approaches and the way they inform our current practice. Carlos will lead us through an exploration of the many forms of yoga that have developed throughout history, drawing gems of inspiration and practice that we can immediately apply to our lives. One fruit of the workshop will be a thorough understanding of the differences and peculiarities of the various forms of yoga (Raja yoga, Karma yoga, Mantra yoga, Laya yoga, etc.), as well as the various contexts in which they arose. But this exploration, while well informed and rigorous, will be far from academic: participants will learn to draw elements from this ancient wisdom of yoga that can enrich their own lives. Perhaps as important, this exploration will not be dry: there is a river of joy that runs through each current of yoga, and this joy is infectious! Take this opportunity to answer your questions about the vast tradition of yoga and its many fruitful practices.

Adam Whiting | In the Footsteps of Ganesh

Ganesh is one of the most well-known and worshipped deities in the Hindu tradition. Easily recognizable with his elephant head, tray full of sweets, broken tusk and big belly; Ganesh is commonly known as the destroyer of obstacles. In this workshop, we will explore some of the lesser known attributes of this divine elephant who is also the god of beginnings, the arts and intelligence. Expect an all-levels challenging asana and movement class integrated with story and song as we trace the path that will bring us to bow to the feet of Ganesh.

Adam Whiting | Divine Poetry

The sages of yoga tell us that our essential nature is truth, joy and bliss. Our separation from that bliss is due to our entanglement in the peaks and valleys of this human experience. Mantra is a potent and powerful tool that can act as a bridge to take the practitioner over the fluctuations of the external world and reconnect them to consciousness within.

In this workshop we will weave strong asana and mindful mantra together to tune the body, breath, mind and voice to come together in a clear and purposeful harmony. We will wade in the waters of Mantra Vidya, or the science of Mantra. Part discussion, part all-levels asana practice, and part Kirtan; we will converse with the intellect, the heart and the body to truly feel the power of this ancient practice.

Adam Whiting | Find Your Float

Cultivating a floating practice in asana depends on finding a balance between intelligent strength and deliberate technique. Strength brings the levity to the movements, but it is the proper technique that brings the grace. In this workshop we will move through a strong and creative flow that will unlock new movement patterns, new transitions and new knowledge on how to float through your practice. This is an all-levels workshop with modifications and variations given throughout.

Practice Intensive | Cassie Lee

Are you looking to drop into a deep space of practice and intention? To reset, regroup or breakthrough, with some laughs as we go? Come join Cassie for a practice intensive: a weekend of four practice sessions, each incorporating pranayama, asana and meditation, with a deep dive into inversions, arm balances and back bends along the way.

The morning session will include strong arm balances, inversions and backbends; the afternoon session will focus on deep hip openers and twists, plus headstand & shoulderstand - still a very active class, but you'll spend a lot of time in floor poses and repeated long holds.

Yoga Fundamentals | Cassie Lee

One of the primary intentions of a yoga practice is to help us feel more connected to ourselves through the experience of our body, but sometimes a yoga class can leave us more confused and disconnected. We don't immediately know where our various body parts are (what is a sit bone?), what the words mean (what language is that anyway, why aren't the poses always in English?) and whether all bodies can and should move in the way the teacher is suggesting?

Our Yoga Fundamentals workshop will explain this and much more. If you are interested in learning the how to do basic yoga postures and common sequences, as well as why it matters that your awareness is embedded into the experience, then come along prepared to move a bit, learn a bit and grow a bit. Please feel free to submit requests or questions beforehand. Both beginners and more experienced students welcome.

A weekend with Clive Sheridan

  • Creature Yoga Industrial Studio:6B, 11 Banksia Drive (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Each session will start with an energising Asana practice, accessible to all levels, followed by Pranayama where we will explore the essential breathing rhythms, in a very safe and harmonious way. A Satsang sharing will complete each day, with a focus on 'opening the heart and clearing the mind', as a way to fulfil our Yogic life.

About Clive Sheridan

CliveSheridan

Clive was called to the path of Yoga following his first trip to India in the mid-1960's. Exploring all the aspects of Hatha Yoga and spending many years visiting sacred sites across India, meeting extraordinary characters along the way, his path opened up to embrace both aspects of mystical devotion as well as direct means to self inquiry into the very nature of our true being. His journey led him to integrate a very unique 'cocktail' of powerfully energising and transformative practices, but to also soften these with a heart-opening surrender to the Divine Goddess within us all.
Inspired by his wild and uncompromising spiritual mentor whom he met in the late 1980's in West Bengal, Clive was blessed with full awakening 'beyond the mind' following intense seasons of sadhana and self inquiry.
His unique spiritual cocktail has 'matured' into a potently transformative sharing of Hatha Yoga practices, with particular focus on the breath, together with a very direct and yet loving inquiry into matters of the heart and mind.
"Self inquiry is the 'Siva', and devotion the 'Shakti' within us - with Hatha Yoga as the 'means' to access our inner divine essence."

Cost: $140 for the weekend (2 workshops). 10% discount for members.

Please note that individual workshops are not available.

Understanding Women's Health & Hormones from an Ayurvedic Perspective | Dr. Claudia Welch

  • Creature Yoga Town Studio:2/142 Bangalow Road (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

In this weekend, Dr. Welch explores the root causes of many fundamental health concerns of women, helps us understand hormonal changes, breast health, infertility and other considerations from a perspective that combines Ayurveda, nadi theory and Western science.

In the modern world stress is affecting each of us in surprising ways. It is a major culprit in hormonal imbalance and is at the root of most women’ s health concerns. Over the course of this weekend, we will learn simple approaches to understanding stress and sex hormones, and apply Ayurvedic nadi theory to practically address hormonal balance through breathing techniques.

Please wear comfortable clothes. We will not be doing asana, but we may be spending about an hour each day doing practical exercises for the cultivation of prana.

This seminar is designed to complement to the information presented in Dr. Welch's 'Balance Your Hormones, Balance Your Life: Achieving Optimal Health and Wellness through Ayurveda, Chinese Medicine, and Western Science', but it is not necessary to have read it before attending.
