(yoga + tantra)
Advanced 50hr TT with Bess, Tahl and Carlos Pomeda
ABOUT THIS COURSE
This online course will begin on Wednesday 9 September and run over five weeks. At the beginning of each week, you will receive a rich collection of materials to work with that week, including asana, pranayama and meditation practices. On Thursday each week there will be a two hour live Zoom lecture with Carlos Pomeda at 9-11am AEST. The call will be recorded and uploaded in case you can’t attend in real time. Towards the end of the week, you will receive a recorded lecture with Bess to help you process Carlos’ lecture. Once a week, you will be invited to attend a live call with Bess and Tahl to chant mantra, discuss the topics, and take your questions.
This course is open to both students and teachers of yoga. You do not have to be a teacher to attend. If you do teach, this course is the equivalent of 50 hours of Advanced Teacher Training with Creature Yoga, or 50 CE hours, both certified with Yoga Alliance.
First three sessions with Carlos: History and Evolution of Yoga
We invite you to dive into the secret wisdom of the ancient yoga texts. This seminar will lead us through the tantalizing history of yoga, exploring its development and the subtleties we can learn and apply to our practice. Take this opportunity to answer your questions about the origin and development of yoga, its main schools and teachings, its approaches and the way they inform our current practice.
Fourth session: The Tantric Universe
What is most unique about Tantra and tantric yoga philosophy? Quite simply, the fact that its teachings and practices are best suited for contemporary life. Departing from earlier notions of asceticism and dry scholarship, Tantra presents a sublimely inspiring view of the world and of human existence, one that incorporates all aspects of human existence: the heart, the intellect, the body and the environment.
In this seminar we will explore Tantra and what is perhaps its most refined formulation, Kashmir Shaivism, from a perspective that is both inspirational and entirely applicable to our daily lives. We will dispel the most common misunderstandings about what Tantra is and is not, investigating its roots and its development, and uncovering the answers it provides to the most fundamental questions of existence, as well as the practices it developed to expand human consciousness. Ultimately, we will discover the value of Tantric practice in that it reveals the divine right in the midst of the ordinary, charging our lives with meaning.
Fifth session: Hatha Yoga and Related Traditions
What is the origin of Hatha Yoga? What is the mysterious Kundalini? How can I experience it and how can it help my practice? What is unique about the human body? How can yoga help me to understand my body? Above all, how can these teachings help me to deepen my practice? These are some of the questions that we will be exploring at this upcoming seminar, the last on this series.
Building up on the knowledge of the Tantric traditions, the paths of kundalini yoga and hatha yoga present a radical approach in which the body is not an obstacle to spiritual life, but rather the very vehicle to enhance our consciousness and develop a sense of connectedness with our world and ourselves, at the deepest possible levels. This seminar will offer a fascinating tour of the hidden “anatomy” charted by the Tantric masters and will also present several powerful exercises to enhance our daily practice.

YOUR LEAD TEACHERS
Bess grew up on the ocean and then an organic farm nestled in the Blue Mountains, Australia, spending a childhood in wonderment of the earth, the sky, and all the mysterious beings that lived between. She has been practicing yoga more than half her life, beginning at age 14 when she began a daily practice with the help of a Louisa Sears video she found in her mum’s cupboard. She has been graced with years of study with incredible teachers, including Rose Baudin, Sally Kempton, Elena Brower, Carlos Pomeda, Clive Sheridan, Tara Judelle, Rod Stryker and Gwyn Williams. She is in love with the Goddess in all her forms, and shares Devi practices through meditation, mantra, pranayama, and asana. She lives in Byron Bay and is the co-owner of Creature Yoga with Tahl Rinsky. She has been teaching yoga since 2011 and is Yoga Alliance ERYT200 and RYT500 certified.
As a committed practitioner, teacher, and mother to 3 beautiful children, Tahl lives and breathes the teachings of yoga. Born in NYC and raised in Israel, Tahl now calls the beaches of Byron Bay home where she co-owns Creature Yoga with Bess Prescott. Officially introduced to Ashtanga as a child by her Mom, Tahl established her own practice upon returning to New York in her late teens. In 2012, pregnant with her 3rd child, she completed a 3-year teacher training (2000 hours) with Dena Kingsberg at the Byron Shala and has been teaching since. Forever a dedicated student, she has continued to study extensively and has been blessed with amazing teachers including Elena Brower, Rod Stryker, Rose Baudin, Carlos Pomeda, Clive Sheridan and Gwyn Williams. As a teacher, Tahl shares a creative and accessible breath focused Vinyasa flow influenced by ashtanga in a strong, fun and dynamic style. Her classes celebrate the raw beauty of life’s moments and the individual strengths each of us carry within. Tahl is Yoga Alliance ERYT200 and RYT500 certified.
Originally from Madrid, Carlos has studied and practiced yoga for more than 40 years. He spent 18 of those years as a monk of the Saraswati order, under the name Swami Gitananda, including 9 years of traditional training and practice in India. During this time he immersed himself in the practice of yoga, becoming one of the senior monks of the tradition and teaching meditation and philosophy to tens of thousands of students around the world. He combines this experience with his academic background, which includes two Masters Degrees: one in Sanskrit, from U.C. Berkeley (where he has taught) and another one, in Religious Studies, from U.C. Santa Barbara. He is currently working on a book on the topic of “Karma and the Journey of the Soul”, as well as an updated History of Yoga and a new translation of the Śivasūtra. As a teacher, Carlos is renowned for the breadth of his knowledge and the clarity with which he conveys it. His great love of the Indian yoga traditions, his insight, his humor and his deep connection with his audiences give him the ability to transmit the deepest scriptural teachings in a way that is clear, meaningful and applicable.
