Carlos Pomeda | Philosophy Immersion 1: History, Upanishads and Yoga Sutras

This immersion runs over three days: Tuesday October 24 - Thursday October 26, 12-3pm each day.

October 24, 12-3pm: Yoga Methodology Through The Ages

In this workshop, Carlos Pomeda will lead us through an exploration of the many forms of yoga that have developed throughout history, drawing gems of inspiration and practice that we can immediately apply to our lives. One fruit of the workshop will be a thorough understanding of the differences and peculiarities of the various forms of yoga (Raja yoga, Karma yoga, Mantra yoga, Laya yoga, etc.), as well as the various contexts in which they arose. But this exploration, while well informed and rigorous, will be far from academic: participants will learn to draw elements from this ancient wisdom of yoga that can enrich their own lives. Perhaps as important, this exploration will not be dry: There is a river of joy that runs through each current of yoga, and this joy is infectious! Take this opportunity to answer your questions about the vast tradition of yoga and its many fruitful practices.

October 25, 12-3pm: Upanishads

We invite you to dive into the secret wisdom of the ancient yoga texts. Explore the Upanishads, which are perhaps the oldest mystical and philosophical texts available to mankind, containing the teachings and wisdom of the ancient sages. These sublime texts unfold for us a profound view of who we are and of the deepest dimensions of the world we live in and the purpose of existence. For this reason, they were traditionally meant to be received not from a book, but directly from a teacher. The workshop will combine a lively and insightful presentation of some of the most important teachings of the Upanishads, as well as the opportunity to directly experience some of the ancient meditative practices they contain.

October 26, 12-3pm: Yoga Sutras: Patanjali Revealed

What is the innermost secret of yoga? How can the mind find true peace? In what way do the practices of yoga connect to the rest of my life? Why are Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras such an important text in the yoga tradition? And why have the Yoga Sutras been so misunderstood? These are some of the questions that we will be exploring in this seminar. This weekend long immersion into this fascinating text will not only give us an opportunity to recover the “original” teachings of Patanjali, but - more importantly - will give us an immediately applicable understanding of the practices and principles that can take our yoga practice to a whole other dimension of depth. In it, we will be exploring the main teachings of this foundational text, contemplating their implications and practicing some of the major approaches that Patanjali offered, which have survived the rigorous test of time. This seminar is divided into modules that can be taken independently or as a sequence.

A Weekend with Clive Sheridan

This weekend course comprises two workshops:

Saturday 25th November 12-3pm
Sunday 26th November 12-3pm

Each session will start with an energising Asana practice, accessible to all levels, followed by Pranayama where we will explore the essential breathing rhythms, in a very safe and harmonious way. A Satsang sharing will complete each day, with a focus on 'opening the heart and clearing the mind', as a way to fulfil our Yogic life.

About Clive Sheridan

clivesheradon

Clive was called to the path of Yoga following his first trip to India in the mid-1960's. Exploring all the aspects of Hatha Yoga and spending many years visiting sacred sites across India, meeting extraordinary characters along the way, his path opened up to embrace both aspects of mystical devotion as well as direct means to self inquiry into the very nature of our true being. His journey led him to integrate a very unique 'cocktail' of powerfully energising and transformative practices, but to also soften these with a heart-opening surrender to the Divine Goddess within us all.
Inspired by his wild and uncompromising spiritual mentor whom he met in the late 1980's in West Bengal, Clive was blessed with full awakening 'beyond the mind' following intense seasons of sadhana and self inquiry.
His unique spiritual cocktail has 'matured' into a potently transformative sharing of Hatha Yoga practices, with particular focus on the breath, together with a very direct and yet loving inquiry into matters of the heart and mind.
"Self inquiry is the 'Siva', and devotion the 'Shakti' within us - with Hatha Yoga as the 'means' to access our inner divine essence."

Cost: $120 for the weekend (2 workshops). 10% early bird discount until 30 June 2017.

Sunday 17th September 12-3pm

This workshop will consist of a classical asana practice and a gentle sketch of Patanjali Yoga Sutras to cultivate a positive internal space. It is recommended that students participate in the previous workshop but it is not essential.

Breaking the patterns that cycle to the same outcomes and discontent. And ultimately revealing the natural self by the incremental removal of all that obscures it. It is mindful repetition of practice that permits the depth and potency required to promote this healing and transformation." - Dena

Les Leventhal | Detox Flow Vinyasa

Sequences of hip openers will liberate tension commonly held in this area, while twists will free your spine and promote detoxification through internal massage. This Hips and Twists workshop is great for beginners to advanced practitioners and teachers, who want to learn how to up-level in creative ways and also provide a safe foundation for their beginning students.

Opening the hips begins by cultivating awareness of the challenges we hold in our hips and pelvic region. While we work to release this tension, we can begin to relax and strengthen the quads, the inner and outer muscles of the thighs and also stretch the hamstrings. We will also free the spine with twists which can infuse the body with vitality and well being, releasing enormous amounts of tension. Twists are associated with toning and rejuvenating the abdominal and pelvic regions, releasing lower back tension and freeing the neck and shoulders.

Les owes his new life to yoga. It is because of this he gifts his yoga, and his life, to others. A life that journeyed Les from rock bottom to a world of endless possibility, he infuses fun, laughter, inspiration and transformation into all of his classes. His appreciation for all that is, radiates in all that he does. Les has completed most of his studies with Ana Forrest and Tias Little. He provides the opportunity to heal your heart, sweat, sing, laugh, cry and just let go. You’re encouraged to modify throughout, doing what you need to take care of your practice and allowing the ’rasa’ (the sap or juice) to flow freely.

About Tahir Qawwal

In this time of religious extremism, there are still those who are carrying the flame of religious tolerance, devotion and mysticism - and the Sufis are some of the most ancient. Tahir Qawwal carries the tradition and teachings of the Sufis in his music, the devotionally driven and passionate music of Qawwali. Rod Stryker | The Art and Science of Practice: An Immersion

Practice, called sadhana in Sanskrit, is the cornerstone of our experience of yoga. What and how we practice determines what we ultimately gain from this ancient system. In our modern age of group classes and a wide range of yoga styles, how does a seeker ensure that they're getting the most from their practice? What do the insights of the yoga tradition tell us about how to use our practice to best prepare for life and ultimately fulfil our role as a spiritual seeker? Since practice can and should be tailored to meet our individual needs, what is the systematic approach to achieve one's highest aims with wisdom and dedication? In this weekend we'll explore the sources of Tantric hatha yoga––through asana, bandha, pranayama and meditation––with particular focus on the stages of practice that impact one, your mind, two, your energy, and three, your soul.

Friday Afternoon Talk and Practice 2-5pm

It also builds creative power, awakens self-knowledge and accelerates the process of transformation. Learn the keys to bandha theory and practice in asana and beyond. Our emphasis is on taking your practice, wherever it currently is, to the next level. Class includes asana, pranayama and some lecture.

Saturday 4:00-6.30pm Sushumna Vinyasa: Awakening the Sacred Channel

According to Tantra, the spine––and more specifically, the energy channel inside it, called sushumna––is the abode of our soul’s untapped potential and a direct link to Spirit. In this session, we move through a practice to build stillness and clarity, while awakening the central channel and unlocking the energy that resides within it.

Sunday 12:00am-3:00pm Shakti Vinyasa: The Power of Mudra

Mudra is the culmination of the physical practice of Tantric hatha yoga. The most energetically profound of all hatha practices, mudra incorporates asana, breath, and bandha, thereby bridging yoga’s physical and spiritual practices. Experience this internally challenging, powerful and sacred modality in the flow of a progressive sequence. Learn the how, why, and what of this most profound of tantric hatha practices. Previous pranayama experience strongly recommended.

Sunday 4:00-6.30pm Yoga Nidra: Relax Into Greatness

Yoga Nidra is the sublime science of complete relaxation. Because of its unique capacity to transform all of the “layers” that the soul inhabits, yoga nidra is both a complete method for maximizing health and vitality as well as one of the tradition’s most profound and accessible ways to positively affect destiny. As it relates to yoga nidra, Rod outlines the theory of sankalpa, how thought is brought into form, and how this relates to the overall concept of dharma. Bring what you will need (blankets, a pillow, a thick mat, etc.) to rest comfortably on your back.

Cost: $350 (10% discount for members)

Please note that this is an immersion. Individual workshops are not available separately.

Gwyn Williams | Less of THIS, more of this

THIS is the hand held tight... a clenched fist, a wanting, a grasping, a contraction. 'this' is a hand falling open, a trust, an openness, a spaciousness, a freedom.

To bring our awareness to where we are caught and rather than TRY to be uncaught, just notice where the fixations and limiting patterns exist to effortlessly let them fall away. This class will look at postural patterns, the lungs and large intestine meridians and invite you to be courageously honest... using the tools of breath, movement and mindful touch.

40% asana, 20% partner flows, 20% therapeutic body work.

About Gwyn
Gwyn has been teaching his entire adult life. Earlier as a physical education teacher, martial arts instructor and later as a yoga teacher and Zenthai facilitator. His passion for alternative therapies and connecting his heart with his hands led to him teaching Zen Shiatsu at his created Mt. Ninderry Healing Centre in 1999. Since this initial class he has become a national and international teacher of his own form of bodywork/movement and awareness. When not teaching class or treating clients he is surfing waves, loving his family, running mountains, spending time in Nature, enjoying Yoga and constantly Bowing down to Source.

Gwyn Williams | Flying Therapeutics

Be prepared to go upside down and release areas in the body not recognised for a long time. The good news is you don't need to do a thing... simply trust and let go.

The other news is you will learn to suspend someone upside down on your feet. Where to place your hands and feet? How to stack your bones? How to make it effortless? What rhythm to tune into? We also will learn how to be the safe support while others take off their training wheels.

Invite the inquisitive child... be ok about making errors and learning from the mistakes. Cheer on your comrades as we adventure joyfully into new and unfamiliar positions. Play and explore, so when you walk away you will wish to suspend another on your feet because it simply offered you so much.

All partner or group work.

Dena Kingsberg | Blue Moon Class

This blue moon class is a creative derivative of ashtanga yoga and suitable for practitioners of any style. It will combine the elements of breath and bandha in a methodical informative sequence. Inspiring conscious movement for the promotion of freedom and longevity in an organic unfurling. Simple pranayama will evolve into mantra chanting in an expression of heart through sound.

About Dena
Dena Kingsberg has been studying and practicing traditional ashtanga yoga for over 30 years. She remains inspired and deeply committed to the vast healing potential of this life changing practice. As one of Sri K.Pattabhi Jois's most devoted female students, she completed the fourth series in 1996, and is graced with certification to teach this method.

"Unrealistic expectation leads to discontent. The acceptance of all – dark and light, smooth and rough alike with an open heart and pure intention leads to genuine transformation. Inspiration can be found in nature’s organic irregularity. Inspiration and beauty can be found within the unique irregularity of you. We practice, not for the sake of a perfect pose, but for the prana that stirs the blood and inspires change."

Duncan Peak | Applied Anatomy & Physiology - Peak Series

Join YogiDunx for a 2.5hr lecture-based class that inquires into why we can & can’t do poses, beyond just mere flexibility. In this workshop Dunx will use students to show variations in poses and why dogmatic alignment cueing is archaic and unintelligent.

Yogidunx will break down different ranges needed for different poses, why some people can do these and why some can’t? He will look at body proportions and explain why this is so relevant to how people approach asana.

The session will begin with an hour of up-skill / review of basic anatomy relevant to yogis, so we can then start to make the leap from knowing muscle names, to understanding how tissues & bones function and how they restrict people in poses. This type of understanding will immediately transfer into your own practice & if you are a teacher, this workshop will help you see students in a whole new light. An epic and fascinating afternoon to help us understand those little things we cant quite get in class!
