Module 1: The Joy of Sanskrit (1 day)

This lively seminar is for anyone interested in deepening their experience of the yoga scriptures by reading directly from significant passages. Sanskrit, the language of these scriptures, contains not only the highest knowledge about yoga and the processes of human consciousness, but also carries within itself the secrets of the power of sound. Whether you are merely looking at improving your pronunciation of the name of yoga asanas, or to dive more deeply into the intricacies of this fascinating language, the Joy of Sanskrit Seminar will provide you with an entryway into the joy of the Sanskrit language. The Joy of Sanskrit Seminar employs a very user-friendly methodology that allows participants to naturally absorb grammar through translation, instead of mind-numbing memorization. From the beginning, participants discover the joy of understanding passages directly. The seminar includes an introduction to the language and its history, instruction and practice into the correct pronunciation of Sanskrit sounds, translation of texts and mantras, practice into the pronunciation of common yoga terms, questions and answers, etc.

Module 2: The Radiant Manifestations of Yoga Devas (4 days)

The “Shining Ones”, the devas or so-called deities of the various Yoga traditions encode within their forms profound and powerful teachings about the nature and applications of Yoga in our daily lives. Throughout history, they have spoken loud and clear, inspiring generation after generation of seekers and practitioners. Bridging a gap of centuries and continents, this workshop will be a fascinating exploration of several key archetypes, delving into the power of symbols, helping us uncover layers of meaning as well as applications to enrich our own modern lives. It will combine informed
and engaging discussions and presentations with asana practice, contemplation, group discussion and meditation sessions. Our goal is to demystify, to inform and, above all, to inspire.

100 hour Advanced Teacher Training - Philosophy | Bess, Tahl and Carlos Pomeda

  • Creature Yoga Town Studio (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

This is a 100 hour training over 10 days with Bess, Tahl and guest faculty Carlos Pomeda. This training module will include classes of asana, pranayama, meditation and mantra with Bess and Tahl, philosophy lectures with Carlos, and discussion/workshop sessions with Bess and Tahl to process the material. This is the link to sign up to the whole training - if you wish to attend only the lectures with Carlos, please see the separate module enrolment options under our workshop tab.

Module 1: History, Evolution and Methodology of Yoga

We invite you to dive into the secret wisdom of
the ancient yoga texts. This seminar will lead us through the tantalizing history of yoga, exploring its development and the subtleties we can learn and apply to our practice. Answer your questions about the origin and development of yoga, its main schools and teachings, its approaches and the way they inform our current practice. Carlos will lead us through an exploration of the many forms of yoga that have developed throughout history, drawing gems of inspiration and practice that we can immediately apply to our lives. One fruit of the workshop will be a thorough understanding of the differences and peculiarities of the various forms of yoga (Raja yoga, Karma yoga, Mantra yoga, Laya yoga, etc.), as well as the various contexts in which they arose. But this exploration, while well informed and rigorous, will be far from academic: participants will learn to draw elements from this ancient wisdom of yoga that can enrich their own lives. Perhaps as important, this exploration will not be dry: there is a river of joy that runs through each current of yoga, and this joy is infectious! Take this opportunity to answer your questions about the vast tradition of yoga and its many fruitful practices.

Module 2: Hatha Yoga Pradipika

What is the origin of Hatha Yoga? What is the mysterious Kundalini? How can I experience it and how will that help me in my practice? What is unique about the human body? How can yoga help me to understand my body? Above all, how can these teachings help me to deepen my practice? These are some of the questions that we are going to explore in this seminar. Starting from a Tantric basis, Hatha Yoga represents a radical approach in which the body is not an obstacle for spiritual life, but rather the very vehicle for the refinement of our awareness and the development
of the connection with the world and with our own selves, to the deepest possible level. This seminar offers a fascinating journey through the secret “anatomy” revealed by the Tantric masters and will also unveil several potent exercises to power our daily practice.
